January 26, 2023 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“How Are You Doing Today?”

Ephesians 3:13-21; Hebrews 12:1, 2

A few years ago, God gave me these, rather humorous, quips of truths, which are actually a simple play on words. I was thinking of some of the habits and weights that people try to justify and substantiate in their lives and some of the frivolous antidotes we ponder for self-gratification.

The only “dip” Jesus took, was in Jordon River; the only “smoking” Jesus did, was in Ephesians 5:2, “... a sweet-smelling Saviour.” The only “drinking’ Jesus did, was at supper with His disciples, (Mark 14:23). And when He “drank” the bitter cup of the cross; (Matthew 26:39, Matthew 27:35, 36); the only “cursing” Jesus did, was when He cursed the fig tree for bearing no fruit; the only things He ever “stole” were the hearts of people; the only “lying” He ever did, was when He laid down on the cross and was laid in the tomb; the only time He ever “lifted” His hand toward anyone, was to help them.

Some people think that all they have to do to get in favor with God is to take:

(1) A little trip to the altar, in a profession to “fix-up.”

(2) A little dip in the water, for confession of a “clean-up.”

(3) A little sip from the cup to “fill-up” hoping to “go-up.”

Seriously speaking, the way to happiness and contentment, is the born again, obedient life that Jesus offers and enables us by the indwelling Holy Spirit, to live a productive, contagious Christian life. Lean hard upon Him, trust Him today, give Him all of yourself, hold back nothing and you’ll find, “joy unspeakable and full of glory.”

Daily Jewel:

“The way to happiness and contentment, is to be born again.”
