January 18 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“We’ll Rest After Awhile”

 Hebrews 4:9-13

After God created the heavens and the earth, He looked at all of it, said it is good, and then rested. We therefore rest in the redemptive work of Christ Jesus. Of course we battle the world, the flesh and the devil; we get weary in the way. We not only battle the elements around us, but we also must battle self. Our flesh is very faithful to cause us to wrestle with spiritual things.around us, but we also must battle self.

Well, dear saint of God, the battle may rage for a while yet, but a rest  will come, like we’ve never known before. Down here we are born to suffer weariness and toil, we just simply wear out.

Down here our “want to”, overrides our ability, if we are fully serving the Lord. But as we trust Him and give ourselves to Him, with our zeal, He will also enable us. We must continually cry out for power here, but there we’ll rest in His power. Dear Christian friend, the sun is going down, your labor is about over, and we’ll raise up in a brighter day than we’ve ever seen. We will have no limitations, we’ll be able to serve Him like we always wanted to, and still be able to rest from all our labors. We rest here in part, but there it will be perfect; our rest will be eternal. There, no rust or corrosion, no broken, shattered dreams; no tarnished crown, no tear dimmed eyes; no feeble knees nor frail hearts and no faltering minds; resting in unending delight. Now we are mortal, but then immortality will reign supreme.

“Up There”

Down here we are wearied in the way,

But there, no toil we’ll pay.

Up there is joy and peace, and rest;

Down here by faith we give Him our best,

Up there, divine happiness, and forever be blessed.
