March 14 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“A    Deeper Thought Life”

Proverbs 23:7

As a person thinks, definitely has something to do with the way he lives, and if he has not thought right, in the pattern of holiness, it will surely bring him to a disappointing end. You see, a thought becomes an act, an act becomes a pattern, a pattern becomes a development of character, and a development of character becomes his destiny. But it all started with the way he was thinking.

Our thought life should be a clean, unadulterated place for God to dwell. We have things, we do things, and we think things; these things are called idols to God, unnecessary baggage that will assuredly drag us down in our journey. If our thought-life has a pure clean mind, no matter if the outside just walked out of a coal mine, after a hard day’s work, our thought life will remain pure. What you think will determine what mood you are in; when you get up in the mornings, do you have thoughts that bring you to say, with a sad countenance, “Good Lord it’s morning, or do you have thoughts that bring you to say, “Good morning, Lord.” Does your oil need to be checked in your thought-life? Are you running a quart or two low? Is it cloudy and raining in your mind? Is the climate uncomfortable and downright miserable? Then realize that God wants all of your mind and thoughts, to think on: peace, pity, mercy and kindness; thoughts of charity, of God and His Son. If you expect to grow into a mature Christian, you must keep a rein on your thoughts and not allow yourself to be tempted into thinking that you cannot fall.

“Clean”

To think on God is pure and high,

the good things, He’ll not withhold.

Make the Spirit your acquaintance,

and a clean heart and mind will unfold.

 Bible Reading Schedule: Joshua 4-6

Weekly Memory Verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:5-10

Romans 6:1-6 ~ 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?         3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
