March 13 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“Living The Deeper Life”

Philippians 4:8-9; Philippians 3:15-16; I Corinthians 2:9-12

Most average Christians have this testimony; "Pray that I might have a closer walk with Jesus." Now, no one else can help you walk closer to God, but yourself. Now certainly we will help one another in prayer and encouragement, but to live closer to God’s will and purpose is up to us, that want a deeper fellowship. First of all, you must be willing to accept discipline from the Word of God, never look for a deeper life from sources outside of the scriptures. Here are five spiritual things that will help you to live a more committed life:

(1) Look sin in the eyes and say I will not have it, deal with it the instant it raises its ugly head.

(2) Never allow yourself to claim anything as your own; wipe out all thoughts of possessing.

(3) Never try to defend yourself; let God do it. He needs no defending.

(4) Never gossip or tell anything, that in the slightest way, may hurt another.

(5) And never accept praise and glory from others. Make these covenants today with God             Almighty and He will honor them with His gracious mercy, and he will fill you with a                 refreshing that will start you on your way to knowing the deeper life.

The key to spiritual perfection,  (and  don’t let the word “perfection” throw you) simply means to be mature in God’s will and purpose; it is to read and study God’s word until you can understand what it is saying to you. Never take just a few scriptures and try to prove your point, that is sure evidence of carnality;  selfishness and stubbornness. It takes the application of a whole Bible to make a fully developed whole Christian.

 “Don’t Look Back”

There is a life of fallow living,

and many to it bow.

But the way to get to the deeper things,

is to follow the Gospel plough.

“The key to spiritual perfection.....means to be mature in God’s will and purpose.”

Bible Reading Schedule: Joshua 1-3

Weekly Memory Verses: Romans 6:1-6

1 Thessalonians 5:5-10 ~ 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
