February 8, 2023 ~ Linda K. Milam February Devotions: "Compassion"

And so, I continue. . .That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works.  Psalms 26:7 KJV

Psalms 103:12-14 ~ 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. KJV

G. Campbell Morgan said of Psalm 103 ~ “It is perhaps the most perfect song of pure praise to be found in the Bible…. Through centuries it has been sung by glad hearts, and today is as fresh and full of beauty as ever.”

We as Christians, should ever have the praise of our God on our lips always. He is the one Who deserves every praise, every honor, every bit of love from our pitiful sin ridden hearts always! David so profoundly spoke and wrote of the great honor towards God, in Psalm 103 better than most. Yet he is just like us. A mortal man seeking to honor God for the GOODNESS he has done for him. It blesses and honors God when His children praise Him and thank Him appropriately.

In verses 1-2 David blesses God for all His benefits he bestowed upon him! Now we can say that as well. Isn't it amazing how God can bless each one of us individually and collectively as a whole? My comfort is His joy. My peace is His gift. No matter the situation, no matter where I am or what task I am performing, it is a gift from God. Each day I wake up is a gift. I know that and I am forever thanking Him. AND when He wakes up my dear husband, I get a double blessing, and He knows my joy. Praise God!

In verses 3-5 David speaks to the redemption that God has given him and all of us! He forgives us of all sin, heals our bodies, redeems our lives from our own destruction and behavior, and then he crowns us with His lovingkindness and tender mercies! He is my ALL in ALL. O the Salvation that reigns in my heart, Thank You O LORD God!

In verses 6-7 David knows that the LORD God gives righteousness and justice for all the oppressed in the world. He is God and His mercy endureth forever! He delivers us when we don't even know that we need deliverance! Not to just the Jews but to the Gentiles as well. Praise His holy name!

In verses 8-10 David talks of the great mercy of God! He is gracious when we least deserve it. His anger is held back many times because of his abounding mercy on us. Yet, there is a point when he will no longer strive with us. We cannot continue in known, open or hidden sin forever; we make a mockery of Him when we do, and He will chastise us after a while! Once we are saved, he does not deal with us regarding our sins for they are hidden under the blood; but for our lack of LOVE FOR HIM and our blatant acts of disobedience. We are loved, confess all your sin, and beg for His forgiveness! Hallelujah!

In verses 11-12 we see the graciousness of God's great forgiveness! It is with His longsuffering toward us that He holds back His anger and hurt and shows us His great love by His abundant forgiveness. How great is His forgiveness? As far as the east is from the west, as far as the heavens are high above the earth, so great that He alone removes our transgressions from us. Thank You for Your love and compassion O God!

And finally, in verses 13-14 David shares of the great sympathy God has for us.  He pities us as His children, for those who fear Him. He knows us from before we were conceived, and He knows us now. We are His creation, made by Him, for Him and yet He cannot look upon us for the sin that we were born into. We are blessed above all!

I only spoke of the first 14 verses, you should take the time to read the entire chapter, study it, hide it in your heart! What a wonderful read this morning. Read your Bible and allow HIM, the Author, to enter into your heart with blessings untold. O forever give praise and honor to His Holy Name!

HE CARES! Do You Know HIM?  Lord, help us to be wise, studied up, aware, and faithful to You. Amen.  With love and prayers, May we be your faithful Philippians 2:16 Missionaries?

Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
