February 12 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“The God Of Consolation”

II Corinthians 1:3-7; Job 15:11

In order to have sure peace and consolation, is to suffer trials and if we follow Jesus in all areas of our lives we will suffer persecutions, tribulations and trials. Does that sound gloomy to you? Take heart dear believer, with every suffering moment God will bring consolation. The darker the clouds, the brighter the light will shine, when we are the most cast down, is when we will experience the highest lifting of the Spirit of Consolation. The more trials we have is the more reason for consolation to be called upon. Great men of faith are made from great troubles and trials. Humility is proven in the unconscious doing of it, rather than the claim of having it, and it will always get you an audience with the King of Glory.

Many times, we are
most happy during troubles, it is because we draw nearer to God, then we find we need Him more; And thank God that He is there. When we have a good supply of the things we need, we don’t need God as much. When the bank account is full and our pockets are jingling with excess, we won’t pray as much. But take away the food and money, and throw away the selfish idols that we cling to in our person and our houses, and we’ll be compelled to trust and honor God, (Psalms 130:1). “Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.” When we hit the bottom, our cry is much louder and our prayers more sincere and trusting. Deep trials and afflictions bring us closer to God, therefore we become happier and healthier in our Christian walk.

“Troubled Heart”

It is not the full days that brings us to God,

But the trials and troubles of a rough road trod;

Does it seem like you’re forgotten, O troubled child?

Your heavy troubles cry for mercy, then consolation in awhile.
