June 8 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“Warriors”
I Samuel 17:45-47; I Chronicles 5:22

Though our fight is not physical and with dreadful weapons of war, we still face the same opposition as these of old that fought bloody battles to defend the banner of God and right. We are definitely in a war and our victory is sure. As the old patriarchs cried to God in their battles, so must we, and He will intercede for us because we will put our trust in Him as they did before us.

If we go forth in the name of the Lord, then the Lord of hosts promises to be with us as our Captain. Those of old put on their armour, held their shield, drew their swords, and armed their bows. Their first trust was not in their weapons of war, these were for defense, but their first trust was in God, and fight if they must, they held their ground against all enemies. God expects us to use all fitting means available to hold the blood-stained banner high, for the cause of good and right. Our confidence must rest in the Lord alone. He is our sword and shield, our buckler and lead warrior.

Our reason for success is in the fact that the war is of God. And in fighting with sin within and without, whether standing doctrinally sound or not, with spiritual wickedness in the obvious low places or in the high places of life. Against Satan and his cohorts, we are warriors in Jehovah's war, and we can’t help but win.

“Finally, Rest”

The battle is the Lords,

And warriors we are.

We can’t run from the fight,

Nor stay back too far.

The enemy is delivered into our hands,

We can’t help but win, and rest in the promised land.
