May 31 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

Judean Desert near Jerusalem
“Showers In Our Soul”
Psalm 72:6

While on tour in Israel, in 1997, we traveled from the Sea of Galilee to Jerusalem. I was moved by the desolate, dry and dusty mountain ranges that Christ walked as He ministered to the people and obeyed His Father. I looked at those desert places and thought how many lives are like that, just lying waste. The guide told us, that all you had to do was get water to that parched land, and it would grow about anything. The same it is for us; when we get the refreshing graces of God flowing in us by the indwelling Holy Spirit, we will prosper and grow. God desires to pour out His love and all of His blessings on those that readily accept it. We must turn to Jesus daily, for refreshing and for cleansing - like a shower on a warm spring morning.

He will send His love, that is fresh, pure and strong; To replenish and prepare us for the dry, dusty and desolate wilderness that is ahead. Go ahead, and step out by faith, God is waiting to reward your faithful obedience.

“Clean”

Showers, Showers, freely falling,

On us cleansing, by Spirit calling.

On us fall, O Heavenly blessing,

O come, Holy Ghost, for a pure refreshing.

Bible Reading Schedule: II Chronicles 34-36

Weekly Memory Verses:  2 Peter 3:9-12

9 ¶The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 ¶Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

May 3, 2023 ~ LKMilam May 2023 Devotions: Fruitful

Some of our family in FL - not all for sure!
And so, I continue. . . That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

Genesis 15:5-6 ~ 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. 6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.  KJV

Who was ever written about that had more fruitfulness than Abram. God promised him a heritage of children greater than the stars!  If God said it, it is so, and He didn't seem to have one worry about "over populating" the earth, as some of the elite are all concerned about!  I say folks have those children and be thankful for every one of those unique beings that God gives you.

My Father, James L. Lane, and my birth mother Birchie had nine children. 5 girls and 4 boys. Due to a sad divorce when 3 of us were just babies, my father and mother separated, and my father retained custody of us 9 kids. A year maybe more later he met my stepmom, Lois, who had 6 children of her own. They ended up married and they had two more children together, my precious sisters Diane and Julia. When my birth mother, Birchie, remarried her husband had 4 children. And when my Aunt Carrie Mae (Lois' sister) was diagnosed with a terrible cancer during her pregnancy with "our baby brother" she turned over our Raymond to our parents and that is how we ended up with a lot of siblings in the family! Everyone just as unique and precious to our parents as the first one and that little baby boy, the last one. He completed our circle called family! This family has been very "fruitful"! And the fruitfulness continues with in our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wow, you might say, how in the world do you care for that many people. Well as you can imagine the ages spread out pretty far and when the youngers were coming along, the Olders were branching out on their own! How wonderful the cycle of family is. That is what we see in these verses. God promised Abram that his family would be beyond numbering . . . his seed would continue long after he was dead and buried.

Family is precious. Maybe you say yours isn't. Too much fighting, arguing, strife to be happy. Everyone is spread out and not one wants to continue that family togetherness. Listen, family isn't always easy, but I promise you this, family is very tolerable when you love them through Christ Jesus. When I got saved, that one that drank too much, cussed too much, smoked too much, lied to much, went to prison for unsavory deeds, murdered someone, you can name every vice you can name, but when Jesus gets involved, they all look different. That is the same with the stranger. When we look at them (family and stranger) with the love and compassion of Christ, everything changes.

Allow the love of God to penetrate your soul and when you look at that family member that is just "obnoxious", look through the blood of Christ and His love for ALL MANKIND.

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

Genesis 1:28 ~ 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. KJV

Verse 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. I think we needed the preceding verse to determine who God is telling them to ". . . Be Fruitful . . ."

From the beginning God created male and female. From the beginning there was no corruption on earth. But when it came, satan attacked the home, the woman in her weakness caught up with power of what satan what said, disobeyed God and her husband, Adam. From the beginning there was a struggle, yet God knew and still He made man and woman for the purpose of creating life. Every piece of our body was wondrously made, and we are still today recreating ourselves in our children. For this I am forever grateful. Our daughters are our joys Our grandchildren the icing on the cake and whether they realize it or not they are continuing to fulfill God's original design of fruitfulness.  God has a plan, and we are truly blessed to be entrusted with creation and the responsibility of protecting it as humans.

I am thankful every day that I am a woman, and I have the privilege to be the wife o my husband. Thank you, again dear God, for your goodness to me and mine.

“Cloudy Days”
Psalm 138:7, 8

Many times, while on our journey, we get afraid. Clouds and darkness seem to prevail, misty valleys with damp clammy fingers reach out through the night and make your dream seem like an ebbing of a nightmare; The vision you had seems to be nothing more than a figment of imagination. But you know that God is there in it all, because you’ve seen Him in action; When it seems the darkest, light breaks through, and reveals the hand of the Master, because He was there all of the time, my troubled child.

Believe in what you have studied in His word, and what you have seen Him do, over and over. Even if doubt assails you, while climbing to Heavenly places, and finding the perfect will of God.

We must remember the promise, go forward, never stray left or right; Obedience is the lot for blessings, not lingering in fleshly lusts. I am not going to turn left or right. I’m going straight ahead, until God turns me. If I know to go on doing good, then God will turn me when it is right, when I have learned enough to go in a different direction. I must keep my heart and mind on what I know is right, and God will guide me in those places I fear and doubt.

“Dimmed View”

Clouds roll in, I am afraid.

Darkness dims my view.

The rising mist fills the air,

Where, Oh God, are you?

“I’m here,” He says,

with the calmest voice,

"I’ve been here all the while."

“Turn back,” you can’t, the way is too dark,

Ahead is hope for you: Grace and mercy

Led you through, the place of doubt and trial.

May 1, 2023 ~ LKMilam May 2023 Devotions: Fruitful

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

Genesis 1:11-12 ~ 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. KJV

From the very beginning everything God created was to be fruitful. In our verses here God is creating the earth as we live in. He created them with the thought of continuing the cycle of birth, life, death. Fruitful from the blades of grass springing forth from the ground to the trees and their fruit producing abilities. I do notice in verse 12, that God makes mention that the yielding fruit would be ". . . after his kind, . . ." Have you ever wondered why He would say this? Maybe he knew that man, of which he had not even created yet, would take nearly every species of every kind on earth and practice scientific methods to procreate cross breeds from plants, animals, and even growing a living being from seeds in a cup. This was not God's plan. He made male and female of everything He created.... that was it!

Fruitfulness of any kind is good, as God said. I want to be fruitful even now. How can I be fruitful? I am a Christian and I can lead another person to the Lord so that they are a Christian and they can lead someone else to the Lord, who will a be a Christian. I know this pleases God. When it comes time to stand before God, will we be able to say that we were fruitful for His honor and glory, and many Christians came up behind us because of our effort to win souls to the Lord?

Make that a part of your everyday life to seek out the lost and bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

1 Peter 5:1-2, 4

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

Although the Christian is to be ever conscious of the purpose the Lord saved us, we are to be witnesses and share the good news of Jesus Christ the Saviour of the World. Peter is encouraging the elders of the church as a witness of Jesus' sufferings, to continue to care for God's people with the leadership of the Holy Spirit with a heart to be ready always to teach, lead, and care for the flock until our Chief Shepherd Jesus Christ shall appear in the clouds! When He calls us home, our rewards will be waiting. Those crowns will be our glory - but we will willingly and lovingly lay them down at HIS FEET!

Until that day, Christian do all that you can do to win the lost to the Saviour. Don't leave one behind to suffer the devil's punishment of hell. God never intended for one soul to go to hell!  It is His desire that all shall be saved! Help us O Lord, to do thy will ALWAYS!

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

1 Peter 2:24-25 ~ 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. KJV

How can anyone love someone so much that they would literally be tortured to DEATH for them? In our feeble human minds, we want to say we would do the same thing for our spouse, children, family . . . but when it comes right down TO where the rubber meets the road, would we? It is a great and mighty thing to die for others. Our men in women serving us in the military, law enforcement and other great services given to others could tell us all about it! Some have died, horrible deaths; some are living with horrible injuries and more. But there has NEVER and never will be again, another death like the Son of God's death!

His was the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind! He did not deserve it, but he did it. He went willingly as a lamb to slaughter. He took all of our sins on himself, and therefore opened the door of salvation to all who would come in. By HIS stripes we are healed from sin, and we now have the Great Shepherd guarding our souls.

If you have never believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, do so today before it is to late. Many will walk out their door today and never return alive! Make sure of your eternal home in heaven before it is eternally to LATE!

 And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

Hebrews 13:20-21 ~ 20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. KJV

When Jesus shed His precious blood on the cross, He made it possible for all men to be saved by grace. His grace is for all and everlasting. He died, was raised from the dead, and is OUR GREAT ". . . shepherd of the sheep, . . ."  Because of this sacrifice, and my decision to believe, trust, accept Him as my Saviour, He gives me the ability ". . . to do his will, . . ." None of us could perform His perfect will without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. By the sacrifice of the Son of God, and the promise of the comforter, (The Holy Spirit) we can never be alone again!  Are you lonely, lost, without God, wandering in this great world of which is a wilderness and a temporary dwelling for all of us? Would you like to have that perfect peace that I have? You can! And when you accept Jesus as your Saviour, and the Holy Spirit indwells you, He will give you the peace and comfort you so desperately crave.

It is yours for the asking! Jesus came to save "whosover will" ~ that does not just mean the Jews, it means "whosoever" will. Come to the Lord today, admit you are a sinner, ask Him to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart and save you! When you do, your life will never be the same again. You will be saved and have that perfect peace I have!

John 10:27-30 ~ 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one.  KJV

To me as a Christian I am so thankful for my salvation and the great promises written for me in the Word of God! The most precious promises may be revealed in these verses. Not only am I His, but He is mine and through Him I have eternal life, never to perish . . . but best of all no one, that means NO ONE, can pluck me from His hand! Then Jesus reveals that because He and the Father are ONE, NO ONE can pluck me from God's hand. This is the security of the Gospel. No matter what the devil wants to try to trick you with, just throw this in his nasty old face! You have been saved, secured, and guaranteed a place of pure protection.

Does it mean I am not faced with trials, no.... I am talking of my spiritual condition! Once I made that personal decision to accept Jesus Christ as the Son of God, now my Saviour, I am by faith saved by grace forever more! Praise the Lord that He then recorded my name in the Lambs Book of Life, and I will one day be with Him FOREVER!

My friends, can ya'll say that? Are you sure of your salvation through Christ?  There is only one way to Heaven, and He is the Only WAY!  If you have questions, please contact me! “Faith Is Trusting”
Hebrews 11:1

Faith is the foundation in what we hope to be accomplished, and the conviction of knowing that it is reality. This is not groping in darkness; this is simply relying on God with complete trust. The scriptures teach us that by having a right relationship with God, we are able to build a life of faith and the judgements we make will not be just a shot in the dark, but that of complete trust.

Many are hopelessly lost, and many are crying out for relief; Jesus is the same as He was in days gone by when He touched the blinded eye and heart, to make them see. He will do it now as then, by demonstration of faith.

To be righteous we must worship God’s way, by the obedience of faith; he provides the ability to have faith, and then turns right around and makes us righteous by applying the blood to a sin-cursed human, by grace through faith; This is the best investment we could ever make, and the dividends are out of this world.

“By Faith”

By faith I’m saved.

By faith I live;

By faith my life,

I’ll give.

By faith I’ll walk.

By faith I’ll talk;

By faith my life,

I will give.

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

John 10:14-16 ~ 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.  KJV

"I am the good shepherd," . . ." Jesus said it so plainly there could be no mistake what He meant. He fulfills the ideal of shepherd-like care for the people of God as illustrated in the Old Testament and in that culture. He is the pattern to follow. If you do not see the attributes of Christ in your Pastor, you must examine your heart with discernment and ask God to reveal to you through His wisdom and guidance how to pray for the Pastor. Jesus was the antagonist and revealer of the false teacher "the robbers and thieves as mentioned in previous verses. He is the Head of all good shepherds. When Jesus talked of the good shepherd, He revealed this this Shepherd is remarkable, willing to take risks to protect His sheep. He isOne that would die for His sheep, and that is very rare in a normal shepherd; one that is not God called.

“In the Latin tongue the word for money is akin to the word ‘sheep,’ because, to many of the first Romans, wool was their wealth, and their fortunes lay in their flocks. The Lord Jesus is our Shepherd: we are his wealth.” (Spurgeon)

The good shepherd sacrifices for the sheep (gives His life). The good shepherd knows his sheep (I know My sheep). We think of sheep as being all the same. The shepherd knows they are individuals with their own personalities and characteristics. The good shepherd is known by the sheep (and am known by My own).

The faithful pastor will, as an under-shepherd, display the same characteristics as the Good Shepherd. He will sacrifice for the sheep, know the sheep, and be known by them. He will be a shepherd and not a hireling who does not care about the sheep. He can never hope to display these characteristics to the same extent as Jesus, but they should reflect his heart and his goal.

The title pastor translates the same ancient Greek word used here for shepherd. It is a title that is only rightfully earned, not granted or assumed.  The work of Jesus as the Good Shepherd was based on His close relationship with His God and Father, and so should that be the same life of the pastor. He must have that one-on-one personal relationship with the Father of all Fathers. His life should so shine of the blessed love of the Father, that he would be willing to sacrifice his own life, time, and being for his flock, as Jesus models.  That late phone call of distress, listen, pray, go as needed. The call from the hospital, as a member lays in great illness, GO! Love on them and their families in the Lord! Make your life so caught up in your flock, that you would anticipate a call always keeping the flock in prayer! This is a pastor.

But Jesus also knew there were others who needed Him. Thank God, He did not come just for the Jews! He came for all men! The Gentiles! That's me. Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

How about you? Do you know that you are one of the flock of Christ? If you don't know that for sure, you destination is hell.  Doesn't have to be so. Be saved today!

And so, I continue. . . That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

John 10:12-13 ~ 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.  KJV

My husband has said numerous times, "You don't have to be saved to play a piano, organ, or sing in church. You don't even have to be saved to stand in a pulpit!" And sadly, it is so true. Many have fooled the flock by their "expertise" in music or oration; but none the less they are wolves to the Lord. We can "hire" people to play a part in our church services; but somehow, we can't pray that God will send someone to FILL THE GAP.? Folks, until God sends, don't "hire"! It is as plain as that! When the rubber meets the road, the "hireling" will flee and run from the things of God. They have no desire to be there except to get a paycheck!

I remember years ago, one of our previous pastors bringing some missionaries into my office in the print shop, and somehow a discussion came up as to how I came to be there. I let the Brown's know, this pastor didn't call me, his dad didn't call me, God called me. I didn't come for a paycheck, and many times there aren't any, but God has been so good to supply as "needs" arose. My rewards are heavenly sent, and He never fails to bless our service when we come with that heart to serve HIM! I came because God chose me for a service for a time, that was over 20 years ago, and He hasn't moved me yet. IF you are serving for a paycheck, you are serving for the wrong reason.

I certainly am not one to butt in, but don't take that pulpit, that Sunday school class, that position of leadership in your church, if God doesn't put you there. God's people are to be ready, available, and willing to fill those gaps. Ask Him to help you with a servant's heart! He will surely bless, as He has blessed me many times over. This is no way any intent to brag on me here; oh no! This is all to GOD's Glory and Honor ALWAYS. He is the one that leads, guides, guards, protects, and supplies. He has been soooo good to me! I can't thank Him enough!

How about you Christian! Have you answered the call to protect the flock? Do it today! You will never say, "I wish I hadn't!" God Bless,

Linda

And so, I continue. . . That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. KJV

Jesus said it so that there could be no mistake what He meant. He is the ideal of shepherd-like care for the people of God as illustrated in the Old Testament and in that culture. What Jesus described as a good shepherd is actually a Holy Sacrificial Shepherd. Shepherds may take risks for the safety of the sheep, but it is probably rare to find one who would willingly die for their sheep.  Jesus gave His life up for the sheep/the people He loved so much so that we could have life everlasting! John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

He is giving his life still. The life that is in the man Christ Jesus He is always giving for us. It is for us He lives, and because He lives, we live also. He lives to plead for us. He lives to represent us in heaven. He lives to rule providence for us.” (Spurgeon)

Do you know Him Lost person? Do you know that the Great Shepherd is also our Amazing Saviour of the world? That means that every living soul can be saved! If you are alive today, you still have an opportunity to be saved and secure your eternal resting place in heaven! O that you would heed the call. If you are reading this, it is not by accident! It is God planned! The Bible tells us clearly what we must do to be saved!

Come to him in repentance of your sin, in belief take Him as your personal Saviour, ask Him to forgive your sin and come into your heart and save you . . . you will never be the same again! To God be the glory!

April 23, 2023 ~ LKMilam April Devotions: "The Good Shepherd"

And so, I continue. . . That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

John 10:9-10 ~ 10 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. KJV

Again, Jesus is making it plain that there is only ONE WAY into heaven and salvation. Shepherds were responsible for the sheep and out in the pasturelands to protect them particularly at night they would build pens that had one entrance. The door for those sheep pens was the shepherd himself. He laid his body across the entrance, to keep the sheep in and to keep the wolves out. The shepherd was in fact the door. And so is our Saviour, Jesus Christ. There is only one way into heaven people, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. You must be born again and believe that He is the Saviour of the World, the Son of God.

As Jesus speaks of those who attempt to come in as thieves and robbers, he tells us, "I am the door: . . . " He is the way and the only way!

The thief implies deception and trickery; and the robber implies violence and destruction. These take away life, but Jesus gives life, and He gives it abundantly. These are the con men and muggers of the spiritual world, the ones that were NOT GOD CALLED in pulpits all around the world. Jesus is the Sacrifice and the Saviour. It is as tragic as tragic can be that after all the shepherd did to protect his sheep, the wolf could still sneak in and fool the sheep.

May we keep our guards up, be prayed up, studied up, in communication with the Lord God always, asking for wisdom and discernment when it comes to our "spiritual leaders".
