December 5, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Light of the World"

And so, I continue. . . . . 

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works.  Psalms 26:7 KJV

Psalms 89:14-16 ~ Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. 15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. 16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. KJV

As a Christian the safest place for me to be is in the presence of my Lord.  When I keep myself near to Him in every aspect of my life, I only ensure the fact that He is right there to cheer me on in hard times, bless me with His presence in and by the Holy Spirit which indwells me always; lead, guard, guide and protect me from the devil's bombardment. Each day I walk closer to Him, He gets closer to me. If I could describe in words what that means to me, I would call it "almost heaven". 

We are still looking for a home and we have 24 more days. A daunting task for folks who live day by day in a world that has gone crazy financially. The economy is causing everything to go up in prices and that includes housing. Rentals in this area are way beyond our budget, BUT GOD. At the end of this journey, we know that He will receive all honor, praise and glory for He is our Great Provider. May we always remember it is He that is in control, not the world. This story of recovery in a hard time will be one that we will thankfully share as a testimony of His goodness to us. What this world may mean as evil or bad towards God's people, is only a training ground to grow us spiritually, help us to stay in the presence of God in prayer longer, and serve Him with more zeal than ever before. 

He truly is the "Light of the World", and we know that through our faithfulness His righteousness will SHINE. Are you struggling? Single Mom are you at your wits end with no help? Sick Christian are you ready to go home, or do you know you are on this journey to meet people you can share the Gospel with?  One of our precious volunteers, Mrs. Cora Kern broke her hip, had surgery and has been in a nursing home for rehab for quite a while now. As we visited her the other day, she could have complained the entire time we were there. But shortly after we hugged each other up and she wept for a while because of pain, she began to praise the Lord. When she is at her home she doesn't get out much other than to go to church and it is rare she gets to meet folks that are not already saved.  But she shared this wonderful story of how thankful she was that she broke her hip and was in a place surrounded by people that she has been able to share the Gospel to. Through her testimony, she has shared the Gospel with almost all of her caregivers. Praise the Lord!

Folks, that sad weepy face we walked in to, began to change as she talked of the "goodness of God," and you could truly see the light of the Saviour on her face! After her tears dried up and we began to talk and listen, she began to weep again. Thanking God that He allowed her to be somewhere she could share the Gospel with lost people. May God burn within our hearts the deep desire that Mrs. Cora has to win souls. So many are lost and dying without God. Their destination sadly is HELL. It is just a plain fact, people who reject Jesus as their Saviour are on a one-way trip to hell.  Christian unless we get a burden for these folks as Mrs. Cora has, there will be no hope for them. I can't wait to go back and visit this dear precious soul and see how God has used her in her journey called life. Please pray for her, that God will give her souls for her labor, and soon bring her back to her home.

Please continue to pray for our new Mission Dwelling! God knows and will provide.

Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

Lord, help us to be worthy of your sacrifice, securing our souls with the Light of your life and sacrifice.  May Your light shine in and through us as our reasonable service to You. Save the lost, encourage the saints please.  And help us to be wise, studied up, aware, and faithful to You, giving YOU all of our best with an open loving heart for the ministry and people. Help us Lord, to be wise in our homelife and all that is going on with that. Thank you in advance, Lord, for working out our situation for a home in FL. I pray for those who can give financially to be a help to us in this time of need. We know you are our great Provider, and we can't thank you enough. We thank you Lord for your wonderful mercy in Tom's eyes and ask that you would heal him completely or at least allow the drug to work. We love you Lord and thank you for first loving us. Amen.

A Missionary Who Transformed a Nation ~ S. Allen 

When Englishman William Carey (1761–1834) arrived in India in 1793, it marked a major milestone in the history of Christian missions and in the history of India. Carey established the Serampore Mission—the first modern Protestant mission in the non-English-speaking world—near Calcutta on January 10, 1800. From this base, he labored for nearly a quarter century to spread the gospel throughout the land. In the end his triumph was spectacular. Through his unfailing love for the people of India and his relentless campaign against “the spiritual forces of evil” (Eph. 6:12), India was literally transformed. Asian historian Hugh Tinker summarizes Carey’s impact on India this way: “And so in Serampore, on the banks of the river Hooghly, the principal elements of modern South Asia—the press, the university, social consciousness—all came to light.”
Who was William Carey? He was exactly the kind of man that the Lord seems to delight in using to accomplish great things; in other words, the kind of person that most of us would least expect. He was raised in a small, rural English town where he received almost no formal education. His chief source of income came through his work as a cobbler (a shoemaker). He had an awkward, homely appearance, having lost almost all his hair in childhood. Upon his arrival in India and throughout his years there, he was harassed by British colonists, deserted by his mission-sending agency, and opposed by younger missionary recruits who were sent to help him. Despite these setbacks, he became perhaps the most influential person in the largest outpost of the British Empire.

  And So I Continue . . . . . .  

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25

Do any of us plant a garden of fruit, vegetables, flowers and expect to harvest thorns? No, of course not. And when we got saved, and the Holy Spirit indwelled us, did we realize that the "works of the flesh" would no longer be welcome or a part of our lives? I have to admit when I got saved, I didn't know anything about the Bible, Church, Sunday School, praying; all those things that grow a new Christian. I didn't realize, as Paul tells us here, that my new 'harvest' would be from the Holy Spirit indwelling and that my hate would turn to love, my unhappiness to joy, my scrambled mind to peace, that my inability to be patient would be longsuffering, that my hardness to others would turn to gentleness, that my faith in God would be complete. 

I didn't realize that the old self would be made new! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. I just knew that something amazing had happened to me. I knew that I would never go to hell, I mean never. I trusted God with all that I was. Then I began a long journey. . . sometimes I was weak, I let the old affections and lusts rule over my heart. . . God was working on me. I learned to know, in the end however, that no matter what I did, where I went, who I was with, that God was keeping me for a 'day'. He was preparing me in every way for the walk that I walk today. No, I am not perfect, that will come with my entry into heaven and my departure from earth, but I have the assurance that He loves me and He will never leave me. Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Do you have a Spiritual Harvest or are you still "living in the flesh" - walking in your old path, and shunning the new one God has carved out just for you? What caused you to stop going to church? Reading your Bible? Witnessing of the marvelous love of Christ Who died so that all may be free from the clutch of the devil.  Do you remember when you got saved? Do you remember the Holy Spirit calling you in your spirit? Did you make a decision to take Christ as your Saviour, and then do nothing else? If you are saved and not surrendered, you can change that path right now.  Trust Him, He loves us so much He sent His Son to die for us.

May our harvest be from the Holy Spirit. Tell someone about the wonderful Saviour Who can meet every need in everyone's life.  I sure am glad someone told me. May He give the weary, strength. The lost salvation, the unloved peace, the down and out hope.  May God bless each one of you in a special way today and when He does, make sure you proclaim the wondrous miracle in your life.

“When My Heart Is Overwhelmed”

 “When My Heart Is Overwhelmed” 

Psalms 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Dear Friend: Haven’t we all been tired or run down by life, and haven't you had times when it seems like the entire world is against you. In those moments, it is all we can do just to function in a half-way normal manner throughout the day.  When this happens to me, (and it does) I like to go to the Word of God for help. In Psalm 61 David seems to be in this very same place. verse 2 says, “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Let me share just a few thoughts and allow God to soothe your troubled heart if you will.

David frequently found himself in situations where he just knew the entire world was against him. He was taken from his father’s flocks and assigned to be a bodyguard and musician for King Saul. He was often sent out into battle and eventually he was hunted down by the king himself. Even after Saul spared his life and he ascended to the throne of Israel, David was burdened by warring nations and his own sinful desires. Troubles seem to follow him, and they were never ending.

No matter the cause or reasons, we can all relate to David at times. It may seem like everything is against you: you got COVID, a cancer diagnosis, a lost job, or the loss of a loved one, a fall to temptation, or some other calamity. And it seems like they all happen at once – just when you think you can stay steady under a new attack, another weight is dropped on your shoulders.

And yet David never lost sight of the One Who could deliver him from any trouble: the Lord. The cry of David’s heart can be an example for us in times of weariness and sadness. The first verse of this psalm is a broken cry to God asking Him to hear his prayers, David asks God to lead him to safety in the midst of  unending tragedy. David claims God as his refuge and strength against his foes and asks God to open His gates to let him dwell there in safety. That same God is here for us today. Call unto Him Who loves you so much.

We may not know the event that caused David to write this psalm, but it is clear that the appropriate response to heartbreak and emotional exhaustion is to turn to God for help and restoration. We can come to Him with our brokenness and trust that He will renew and restore us with strength and peace we cannot fathom.

Is Your Heart Overwhelmed? The sadness described in Psalm 61 is not an everyday sadness. The level of exhaustion and resignation is not the normal tiredness we feel at the end of the day. It is a profound, soul-rending sense of loss and fear. Is this where you are? Do you know of someone that is in this condition? The deep struggles others may go through should never be compared to your pain. Each one of us grieve and sorrow in our own way.

That being said, we can be worn down by the world. Jesus Himself promised us that even our loved ones could turn on us, and practically guaranteed that we would have trouble in this life. Our world is fallen and against anything godly. The evil that abounds in our world today can be very depressing.  On days when it seems that the whole world is against you, a sense of loneliness can be pretty overwhelming. 

What Can We Do? First of all, when you reach the lowest point, know that overwhelming issues are God’s business. He wants to hear the deepest cries of your heart at all times, and if your heart is only capable of producing tears, God will take that honesty. (Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Next, we must always remember that God not only wants to hear our cries, but He also wants to heal our cries. He wants to soothe our broken and tired hearts with His healing presence and replace them with more of Himself. When God is invited into your hurt then you can experience a peace that passes all understanding. We will never fully understand the mind of God in this life, but our faith in Him can sustain us through the dark times.

The next time your heart seems overwhelmed, try turning to God. The Word of God will not return void. God will use even our small faith to work miracles in our hearts. Try reading through this entire psalm or another familiar passage and use those words to pour out your overwhelmed heart to the God Who is never overwhelmed.

I pray these thoughts will be a blessing to someone today.

And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands.  1 Samuel 17:47

 

My husband is always saying, and I have heard many others say, "Christians are either going into battle, in the midst of a battle, or coming out of a battle!"  This last week we attended one of the most Holy Spirit Lead Revivals we have been to in a long time.  Pastor Greg Booher of Faith Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, preached every service reminding us of the magnitude of lies that Christians have been inundated with by the devil himself, the master liar ~ regarding Revival in The Christians Life!  Most Christians have been made to believe that we can't have REVIVAL as the old saints saw years ago, A LIE!

 

Tom and I have challenged each other, that this Pastors HEARTS messages will not go unheard, unheeded, or non-life changing for us and our ministries.  We desire the Lord to work and use us in our lives.  Time is so short and we see signs all around us of the end days.  (If this confuses you as to what are the end days, please write us via email and let us talk with you and using the Word of God, remove your confusion.)  We pray every day for the next lost soul we meet, that we might be used to share the Gospel and insure them of their home in heaven.  But it is a battle.

 

We are at WAR with the devil himself.  We look at the atrocities of war every day on the news, the loss of life, limb and liberty and we are horrified.  The enemy would do all, say all and be all to convince us that we are at wrong.  A Lie!  But the most horrific lie of all is the one the devil uses to keep Christians from fulfilling their commission, spreading the Gospel, and leading the lost to Christ.  If we find ourselves slipping, or becoming “comfortable” just going to church once or twice a month, not reading our Bibles, praying, and living a Christ like life in our everyday life, we might need to check out where we have come since the precious day the Lord made us one of his own, insuring our salvation!  We have to revive our own hearts and spirits before we can reach others!

 

Just before I close, I want you to think just a moment; think about heroes of the Bible, such as David, we might be tempted to think that they were born with the ability to jump into the work of the Lord. But that’s not true. Throughout Scripture, you and I can clearly see the principle of preparation at work in the lives of God’s people. Look at the life of David. Before he battled Goliath, David had fought many smaller battles as a shepherd on the humble hillsides of Bethlehem. Alone with God in obscure, isolated places, David honed his battle skills killing the creatures that threatened his sheep; and these times of preparation were essential to becoming a giant slayer.

 

How about you? Are you prepared for the giants that are coming your way? Have you “honed” your spiritual skills?  The reason many people feel overcome by towering challenges is because they have failed to prepare in the smaller places. Become consistent in the routine, smaller battles that come your way. Your confidence in God will grow and you will become increasingly adept at waging spiritual warfare. Start today. Prepare for great victories by faithfully fighting the smaller battles of life; and when it’s time to face the giants, you will be ready to win.  God prepared me for the work I am in with my husband for over 35 years.  Believe me, when I say, I would not have been ready not even 10 years ago to do what we do today, if I had not surrendered my life wholly to him!  

 

We will leave Florida again, on April 14^th, and Tom is scheduled to be in 14 churches and ministries all up and down the Appalachian Mountain Range preaching the Gospel, encouraging and  lifting up the saints, and leading the lost to Christ, and I will be by his side.  Our last trip took us over 10,000 miles in 4 months.  God wants to use you to reach the lost the same as us.  But you need to get ready and BE ready at all times.  I must share this story to emphasize again the importance of being ready.  

 

Just this week,  my husband shared with me a conversation he had with a couple of other preachers.  Tom told them that he never goes to a meeting not prepared to preach.  He is always ready to step up and into a pulpit at a moment’s notice.  He believes this is what God would have him do.  One of the other preachers was shocked; “Why, when you aren't on the schedule?” was the question?  Tom answered, “I am always ready and prepared to be used in any way for the Lord, and I am a Preacher of the Gospel. Why wouldn’t I be ready to preach, if He needed me?”  I appreciate that.  It is not a brag on Tom, but rather a brag on God.  God has instilled a great desire in Tom's heart to preach the Gospel, he is compelled to be ready to serve at a moments notice. Are we ready for anything God would have us to do?  Where are our talents; in music, preaching, teaching, praying or something else? No matter what your talent is, be PREPARED to be used of God.

 

Pastor Booher talked this week about training ~ if you’ve ever done any weight training; you know that you can’t start out with the heavy weights. You must start small and light. A day by day building up of muscles/Christ like life, must occur for us to be used as God would use us.  Watch for how God gives you opportunity to lift spiritual weights by practicing principles taught in God’s Word. The more you do it, the stronger you will become.

Christian today I want to share with you A little of my heart and I ask you:

Are you nearly overwhelmed with the burdens of this world? Are you sick in body? Have you lost your job just weeks before Christmas? Have you been deserted by the one you love the most? Are you looking for answers but there seem to be NONE? You are faithful to God. You attend church every time the doors open. You tithe.... You give offerings above your tithe. Why, you are also a giver to Faith Promise Missions! You read your Bible and talk to God Every day, multiple times a day, not just at mealtimes!

So why are all these “things” in your life tearing you apart? Why are you facing a life threatening disease or a life as a single parent, or a lost job. Catastrophic things that are changing your world as you know it. Why? It is not because you have been “bad” no matter what a lot of folks think. We are all sinners saved by grace. And as long as the Lord tarries His return and we continue to live on this mud ball we call earth, we will endure problems. The difference between the Christian and the non-Christian, Is FAITH. Don’t give up, don’t give in. God Is good, He Cares and is still with you. YOU do right when no one else is.

Paul Chappell’s devotion today (inserted below) was such a help to me personally. My husband and I are the children of a holy God! We are missionaries serving God full time to the best of our abilities. Yet we are no different than you. We still pay light bills, phone bills, buy groceries, gas, clothing, etc. We are facing age, illness, heartbreak, rejection, hurt just like you. Reading Pastor Chappell’s message today reminded me that God is in it all!! Keep looking up Christian, He is coming soon. And for the non-Christian, please be saved today. HELL is real. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.” Psalm 61:1–4

The idea that a Christian will only receive good things from God and coast through life on a bed of blessings sounds good and draws large crowds and television audiences. But it is not the reality of life presented in Scripture. David, who was known as a man after God’s own heart, spent years running for his life. He was the number one target on Saul’s list, singled out for death not because he had done wrong, but because of Saul’s jealousy. Yet even on days when it seemed that everyone on Earth had turned against him, David clung to his faith in God.

Faith is not a barrier that prevents trouble from coming; it is a shield that keeps those troubles from conquering us. (I loved that sentence! LKMilam)

In the moments that challenge us the most, we sometimes feel that we must be strong. But victory is not found in our strength; it is only found in the power of God. Even the apostle Paul, to whom we look as a great example of the Christian life, knew what it was like to be pushed to the edge. He wrote, “For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears” (2 Corinthians 7:5).

We sometimes think that if our faith were stronger we wouldn’t worry at all. But David was overwhelmed and Paul was troubled. We must understand that faith is not the absence of fear, but the continuance of trust and obedience. ~Paul Chappell

What Giants Are You Facing? ~ Linda K. Milam

Good morning from Ft Pierce FL! 

I arrived safely on Tuesday night and as expected, stepped into an absolute whirlwind of duty and chaos, all without my partner NOT by my side! I sure miss him. He is the one who loves me the most and loves taking care of me. But that day I faced my giants with only his sympathetic words coming from my phone! 

While we were gone on this trip, Our home had brand new flooring put in and a new kitchen and both bathrooms updated. We are blessed with the loving care of our "spiritual daughter" caring for us from afar. She is a blessing to us both and made all this happen while we were in meetings during our recent trip to our WV mission house.  

The changes are beautiful but oh my soul ~ I looked around after my first look at the beauty and knew I was in trouble. I felt like Peter when he stepped on the water to walk to the Saviour, and he "looked around at the storm" and began to sink under the water, he took his eyes off Jesus and his faith wavered!  Yep, I did the same thing Tuesday night. I let the things around me take my eyes off my Saviour.  

All of my furniture was pushed and shoved everywhere! Left behind leftover construction material everywhere and everything is covered with TILE DUST from the ceilings to the floor and every surface in between! Vision that!   

Driving nearly 16 hours, I was so tired I just wanted to go to bed! But before I could do that I had to wrestle a 500 lb plus treadmill which had our bed shoved up against the wall, away from the bed, so I could remove the furniture on the bed. Sadly I slipped a disc and now I am in excruciating pain. I somehow located my back brace put it on and continued the cleanup. I stripped the bedding, dusted all around, made the bed and by then I was truly exhausted and in much pain. Aren't you tired thinking of that?  This was all after I unloaded the Yukon and at midnight by now!  I'm tired all over again thinking about it! LOL  

I did what I could and laid down. You know when you drive for long periods of time and you finally lay down your body "hums" for a while. Well, mine does. I eventually fell asleep but was up quite early to begin the cleanup process. The only problem, my back. I could hardly maneuver enough to shower and dress. All I could do was turn my back on the mess and walk out the door and head to the Print Shop. I knew I would need help so I went to the shop instead.  

I know ~ We hear it all the time!  How do they do what they do? Go the way they go all the time? They are getting older and older but seem to get busier than ever.  

How do we do it? Truly by Gods grace. He never fails us even when we fail Him. We are people just like other people. Having blessings from God gives us many responsibilities and we choose His way for our lives. We get tired, and pain strikes us and we sometimes get to the point we can't go anymore.  

But We don't get up every morning and start our busy schedules without spending time with God.  

He is my strength and my high tower, my Saviour and my Father, my Guide and my Leader and I follow Him by choice.  Through the reading of my Bible, prayer time, and my devotion time I gain strength for the day. That is how. I do get weary and my faith fails me at times but the morning time with God gives me the strength to go on. I loved Paul Chappell's devotion on Faith this week. It helped me to keep focused on accomplishing His tasks for the day. Here is a portion of it.  

"Our faith is not measured by what we say, but by what we do. If we truly believe God’s promises, then we will claim them and act on them. We will never accomplish what we should for God if we do not trust Him." ~Paul Chappell  

I am putting all my trust in Him. Why don't you. Your stories are just like mine we are people. We allow the circumstances around us to overwhelm us and become tired and discouraged. We in essence take our eyes off of Jesus. That's our weakest point and the devil will attack as soon as you let down your guard, Christian. Before I began the task of getting myself a place to lay down to sleep, I called my sweetheart in tears. "I can't do this, I cried! I need you." Overwhelmed he knew what to do.  After we both cried awhile my sweetheart took us to the feet of our Saviour in prayer!  It does work. "It is just stuff", I said. It will get done when it gets done!

Forgive my long rambling this morning. I missed posting so I'm making up for it. ☺️❤️   

What giants are you facing today?  Health, finances, family, life in general?  If you are saved and know you are, take it to the Saviour in prayer. He WANTS to help you, but you have to put your trust in Him. If you are not saved, He still wants to help you. Your first step of faith, is to accept Him as your "personal" Saviour.  

KJV John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 

Whosoever means you. Put your name right there, pray and ask God to forgive you of your sins and your unbelief and accept Him by faith!  You will NEVER regret it.  

I pray a little bit of my heart has reached yours!  We are truly blessed with many friends and family who pray for us every day. We receive not only requests for us to pray but many reminders from others letting us know they are praying for us. Yes, through it all, We are loved and blessed!
