March 3, 2023, ~ Linda K. Milam March Devotions: "First Mary, Then Martha"

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

John 12:1-3 ~ 1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. 3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her
hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
KJV

Jesus is back at his friend's home to have fellowship around a table. He knows I am sure that Martha will feed his hunger, and most likely Mary will encourage His spirit. And they did not disappoint Him. "There they made him a supper; . . ." Reminds me of the many times my children and grandchildren have gathered around our table. It is home. It is the place we love to be and to be surrounded with all the people we love the most. We make great plans for those occasions. Making sure we have a little bit of everything that will please the appetites coming through our door. But it does take a lot of work, and we shoulder this work and responsibility together, which makes our get togethers even more precious. My husband just said yesterday that no matter what we do when we do it together, it makes him very happy. I do love him so.

Martha again is prepared to feed Her Master, and she loves doing what she does best. The smells in the house would have stirred the appetite even more, and the beauty of the table set before Him, would soothe His soul. And when He sat down, that one that was dead, but He raised from the dead was sitting at the supper table with Him, Lazarus! A wonderful occasion for sure. And then His precious Mary, anointed Him with precious oil and washed His feet with her own hair. He was very much loved by those who lived in that household.

Our homes should be like this one described here. Open to those who just need a bite to eat, a little freshening up, and rest for the body. Martha and Mary were beautiful hostesses, and we could learn much from both of them. I am enjoying this study - and I pray you are as well.

 HE LOVES US!

PLEASE PRAY WITH US THAT GOD WILL GIVE US A HOME OF OUR OWN SOON. THANK YOU! We looked at an option Friday. We are asking God for wisdom, trusting Him for our every need. 3/1/23 Please continue to pray that God will work out this "Option" to His honor and glory!

In the name of Jesus, may we be HIS emissaries and used by Him to help others.

HE CARES! Do You Know HIM?  Lord, help us to be wise, studied up, aware, and faithful to You. Amen.  With love and prayers, may we be your faithful Philippians 2:16 Missionaries?

March 3 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“Chosen”

Philippians 3:10; Isaiah 48:10

Most people know something about Jesus, many know Him historically; but how many know Him to the fullest? We say we want to be like Him, but we cannot yet be exactly like Him, because we would have to be born of a virgin; suffer, bleed and die on a cross and then be raised from the dead by our own power, and all of the other things Christ did and will do. No, we can’t be like Him literally in that sense; But we can know Him and live in the power of His resurrection. Think about it, we will raise again after we die and while we are yet living, we can live in the light of a redeemed life. And then we are called upon to know Him in the fellowship of His sufferings. It is one thing to live a life of mountain top experiences, in the glory of being a teacher or officer in the church, a deacon for instance or maybe you desire to be a Preacher or leader in the church. Our heart’s sing to be called upon to minister to others, to be in a position where others look to you for guidance and wisdom. But then when the responsibility of the office takes us away from the safety of the church building, soul winning, for instance; or building a bible study class from scratch; maybe mending a roof or painting the building; We then realize that there is not much glamour or glory in it. And it definitely proves out who is serious and who is not.

If God has chosen you to do a work, and He has for all of us a work to do. If you climb the mountain, He is there. If your work is in the valley, He is there; even when you are in the furnace, He is there. He speaks, “fear not, I am with thee.” He chose us, and you can believe that He is with us. (Isaiah 43:5).

“Comfort”

Comfort yourself, believer tried,

For on the Cross, for you He died.

The word brings peace,

like a soft spring  shower,

Dampening the flames

of the tempestuous  hour.

Daily Jewel:

“He chose us, and you can believe that He is with us.”

Bible Reading Schedule: Deuteronomy 5-7

Weekly Memory Verses: Romans 1:14-17

Romans 1:14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

With love and prayers, may we be your faithful Philippians 2:16 Missionaries?

March 2, 2023, ~ Linda K. Milam March Devotions: "First Mary, Then Martha"

And so, I continue. . .
That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

Luke 10:40-42 ~ 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. KJV

We have many choices in life, because of our loving God. The most important choice we will ever make is regarding our salvation. Once we have confirmed with God that our souls are safely IN HIS HANDS, we are compelled to obey the Word of God, do His will, learn more about Jesus, and win souls. It can be a very delicate balance when we are actively serving in the ministry in any capacity. Don't let your "duties" get in the way of your worship for our Saviour.

Martha is a prime example of how this can happen to the very best of us. Martha had the GREAT HONOR of having God the Son sit in her living room and be very near to her and her family! She could reach out and touch Him, worship Him, and bestow her love for Him. She was so excited knowing He was coming, and she had much to do to prepare for this auspicious visit. She began to prepare a menu, shop, clean the house, and make everything "just so" for the soon arrival of her special guests. We do the same thing, don't we? When you are expecting invited guests in your home, don't you rush around getting ready for them? I do. I used to get so wired up on is the "house clean" that sometimes I would miss the actual purpose of the guests; and that is sweet fellowship around the table and God's provisions. I just read a little quote you might find funny, but true.  "I can get more done in 10 minutes in my house when I know the Preacher is coming for a surprise quick visit, than I can all day long!"  ME! I admit it.

Martha had a "chore" to complete, a "task" that she took on herself. And when her guests arrived, she was still at it. Molding the loaf of bread for the oven, setting the table, making things ready for her guests to have a wonderful meal.  All of this is good, but she lost what should have been her main focus. She was so involved in preparing the home - she forgot to prepare her heart. Folks, when we have a task before us in the ministry ~ we PRAY BIG! Our God is our Guide and our Leader, and we want most of all to please Him and perform our duties and service as He guides us! Martha I am sure knew that, but she got caught up in her "duties" vs. sitting at the feet of Jesus as Mary did.

We start our day at 6am to insure we get our 2-3 hours of study, meditation, praying, and reading and studying the Word of God. Most days we don't go to bed till midnight, and by the way, this is getting a little more difficult as our age carries on. I am grateful for this time; it makes my day complete before it even begins. I love Martha's work ethics, but I love more Mary's devotion to the Lord as she sat at His feet. Here comes Martha's thorn, of which the Lord knew all about to begin with. She wanted Mary to get up and help her. . . and she complained to the Lord about the fact that she was still sitting at Jesus feet.

Folks it is all good to serve the Lord, but as Mary, it is better to serve Him completely and devotedly letting nothing else get between her and the Lord at particular times. O that we would take this great advice and do the same; put Him first. Martha chose her path to serve Him, and that was good, but she lost her focus when her service became more important than her worship to the King of Kings! It is ALL ABOUT HIM! Let's remember that in our own lives.

March 2 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

 “Learning From The Devil”

I Peter 5:8

We all would like to get rid of the Devil, but we can’t, because where God is in our lives, he is very present also. If he then is so present with us, then we should take every advantage to learn all we can from him to keep from falling into his traps. In one particular instance the children of Israel went down to their enemy, the Philistines, to sharpen their tools that they might do their work. (I Samuel 13:20).

Let us take a close look at how we might learn from our enemy, how to better equip ourselves against him. First, let’s look at our zeal, is it for knowledge of the Word of God that we might learn to serve Him better? Or is it more on a personal level, of how we can gain from it, or show others what zeal we have for impression alone? This is one of the enemy’s tricks. Our zeal should be tempered with the Holy Spirit that will guide us to brag on Jesus and not what we’ve done. Secondly, look how devoted the Devil’s followers are, the deceivers, the cults and the world lovers. They will serve their idols, no matter what. Shouldn’t we serve our God, with this same devotedness? After all, He gave us eternal life, and the Devil offers only temporary pleasures and then eternal damnation. The Devil is very patient, and his followers are willing self- sacrificers; They persevere and let nothing stand in their way; their energy is like none other; they are daring, and unification is their mainstay. While we as believers allow division among ourselves to hinder our service and hardly ever come into unity, as we are led and even commanded to do so. We can learn from the devil, how to draw closer to God and be more dedicated in Gods service.

“Seeking”

Seeking whom he may devour,

The devil makes a mess;

But we are good Samaritans,

Seeking whom we may bless.

March 1, 2023, ~ Linda K. Milam March Devotions: "First Mary, Then Martha"

And so, I continue. . . That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works. Psalms 26:7

Luke 10:38-39 ~ 38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. KJV

I have 8 sisters. Some are in heaven right now, and in a way, I envy them. Not much though, I want to go but I don't want leave anyone behind. Although I can't wait to be there with them, it is Jesus that will have my full attention, BUT when I can take my eyes off of Him, I'll be looking for them.

But this morning, I am thinking of them like Mary, Martha's sister. "She sat at Jesus' feet!" I can see my sisters - Darlene, Gladys, and Jean all sitting at Jesus' feet. How happy I am for them. They are not struggling to breathe, or worried about heart attacks, or strokes. They are not coughing and choking or looking for an oxygen tank - they are happy, strong, healthy completely cured of the diseases that plagued them here on earth, gazing on the face of the One that gave them eternal life in Heaven. I am thankful they all knew the Lord when they took their last breaths and that I will surely see them again.

Jesus came to Martha and Mary's home in Bethany just a few miles outside of Jerusalem. He came for a reason; He came to see His friends. They loved Him, welcomed Him every time He came and took great care of Him. But on this day Martha was a little tired, stressing a little about all that had to be done for her guests, so maybe not feeling so great physically or spiritually. Let me borrow your imagination; let me see if you relate to WHY Martha was feeling the way she was.

She likely was the oldest over Mary and Lazarus and she felt a great responsibility. Their parents were not mentioned, so she probably had taken over the household and had a great responsibility towards her siblings. There was always something to do. Cook, clean, laundry, shop; all those things the head of the home would have. She likely paid the bills and did all the housework - with a little help from Mary.  She was a wonderful homemaker. But she also had another side. She loved Jesus, her family and was thankful she could serve them; but just sometimes don't you think she might have felt like just sitting back and letting others wait on her?  Ok, I just described myself. :) I told my dear husband just this week how tired I was in my body. I sit down, I'm asleep. They wake me up for a while, and then I sit down and fall asleep!  I think I need a longer nap or a good rest! I just want somebody to SERVE ME. :)

Martha was watching Mary at Jesus feet, adoring Him with all that was in her. Here was her Saviour and Lord. But Martha was still in the kitchen, cooking, washing dishes, setting the table for her guests. "Really Mary! Can't you help me?" I can just hear her... That was how Martha was feeling. Let me just say, we are all human, and we probably would have said the same thing. But Mary! O to have her seat at that time. . . at the feet of Jesus. We can learn lessons from both of these ladies! There is a time and place for everything. . .and we need to make sure Jesus is dead center.  Martha loved Mary, but at that time, she just wanted a little help. Jesus knew Martha's thoughts and He knows ours. No matter the task, let's do all for Jesus' sake. Don't get the poor me attitude, be thankful you can do all you do. When I went to my daughter Lita's house this morning to take care of a few things, I know she wishes she could get up off her bed and wait on her momma versus me waiting on her!

I am thankful I still have my health and energy that I can serve others in any capacity. And I can't tell you how blessed I am to be able to do that shoulder to shoulder with my husband. Let's be thankful for every moment we can serve others, no matter the purpose or reason.

March 1 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“Loving Kindness”

Luke 15:20; Jeremiah 31:3

Many people wonder why God doesn’t automatically save everyone, without any hassle, but sends law and judgement to us to get us to turn to Christ. And then it is His loving kindness that seals the matter. This is what caused the prodigal to sense his need, and his father saw him yet a great way off and ran to his son, because he loved him. He was looking for him the whole time he was gone into the far country. It was the father's loving kindness that made him run to his son and it was that same loving kindness that drew the son back to his father.

The law came to our hearts door and said things are not in balance, you are blind, destitute, wretched and lost, and we fought off His advances, and told Him that we would clean ourselves up and clear our gnawing conscience. Have you ever tried to force help on an injured animal? He’ll bite you, though your intentions are to bring help. The law shows us what we need but it is the grace of loving kindness that meets a man that’s on his knees in repentance.

God knocks at our heart's door, not hard enough to knock it down, but with gentleness that we might step through and receive His loving kindness. I could not think of turning Him down that night that I yielded to His knock, I gladly said, come in! Come in! You have drawn me with your loving kindness.

The pierced hands of Christ reached farther down than the arm of the law and does what it could not do, save to the uttermost.

“Covered”

The law points out our faults,

 and tells us what to do;

But love hides them all,

and saves me and you.
