November 29, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

 And So, I Continue . . . . . .

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works.  Psalms 26:7 KJV

2 Corinthians 9:13-15 ~ 13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; 14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.  15Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.   KJV  

Chapter 9 - Paul's letter to the Corinthians, is full of wisdom used to encourage the Corinthian Church to continue in the good fight for the Lord. They had agreed to support the Christian work in Jerusalem, and he encouraged them to continue to do so, and it wasn't for their monetary value of giving, it was the action of giving from the heart and the blessings from God for their faithfulness. When we give in light of souls that may be reached, there is no limitation on God's blessings. When we give with an open heart and joy in the ability to do so, the Bible says He will bless us abundantly.  Luke 6:38 - Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God is in control Christian. If we would just obey the Word, trust in Him for our every provision, and truly apply it to our lives, God not only gives enough blessings for us, but he supplies more than we need, so that we can supply the wants of others. This should be as seed to be sown. When we sow abundantly, he supplies way and above our needs. 

God wants us to give. This is an ever example of our trust and faith in Him.  We were just advised by our dear friend that she must sell our home, our sanctuary here in Florida. Blessings beyond blessings has she been to us, and we know this is a difficult time for her. But after we got over that first shock, and took it immediately to the Lord, our thoughts were not of soon being homeless, but how she was doing in this hard time. God has blessed us "over and above AND running over" He will not fail us now.  We know that. He has proved Himself over and over, and He will continue to do so. Our lives are not our own, we belong to the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. His supply is all we need! 

A simple message in Corinthians 9 – one that we try to take part in daily. Nothing we have is our own, it all belongs to God, and He will give us strength and wisdom to carry on His work. Paul wanted the church of Corinth (and us) to see; that there is no limitation on what they could give, and because of that the Gospel would continue and God would receive all the praise honor and glory He more than ever deserves.

But it still takes money to run a church or home; that ever-looming light bill, water bill, mortgage, rent, car payment etc. If we would but copy the example of Jesus Christ, never tiring of doing good and letting us know it is more blessed to give than to receive, there is no limitation on our giving. We thank God daily for His gift of grace, which allows us to give back to others in His name. We are thankful for every opportunity to serve the Lord in giving, as He deserves all the honor and glory. 

Pray with us for our next move here in Florida - we will know soon, I am sure, if we can afford to stay in this home with a new landlord, or if we look for another.  We may be displaced from our little abode but look excitedly to see How God will take care of us. Thankful and blessed, we allow the Lord to take control by taking our hands off.  Hard to do, isn't it? News like we heard at first causes a little panic and concern, but God's ways are not our ways.  We thank you all for your prayers, love, financial support ~ we couldn't do what we do without it. When we give in love and give by grace; God will take care of the rest. We pray His richest blessings on you! And do pray for our dear friend and her family. Times are very hard for everyone. Pray that a good sound independent fundamental church might be raised up for their efforts where they live.  God is working!

Help us Lord, to be wise in our homelife and all that is going on with that. Please bless our real estate agent, Lisa. Give her great wisdom and discernment on what to do. Amen.  

 

 

November 28, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

  And So, I Continue . . . . . .

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works.  Psalms 26:7 KJV

2 Corinthians 9:11-12 ~ 11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;  KJV

I have learned so much this month on "The Grace of Giving" and I pray it has been a blessing to you as well. The verses used today I felt needed a little more clarification for me - so I read the whole chapter again and felt like the previous three verses before our verses today helped me to understand Paul's point in 11-12 a little better. Not trying to change the original thought on giving for today - but to enhance it always.

Read verses 8-10: 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

It is clear in Paul's letter he wanted the church to know how important the Grace of Giving was. He praised them on their giving to Christ’s fulfillment of the law, which took the curse of death from us and laid the entire burden of man's sin on our Saviour, Jesus. He bore that burden to death, and through His righteous giving, we have access to eternal life. Through Christ’s death and sacrifice rent the veil of the Holy of Holies and we now have direct atonement for our sins and direct access to the throne of God. 

When you think about any trouble we may face as Christians, it will be nothing compared to those who are suffering without Christ. If they do not accept Jesus as their Saviour, their suffering will NEVER end.  Because Jesus reconciled us to God, we should no longer live to ourselves but for Him.  We owe Him everything and ought to be living a holy, blameless life.  Because God is holy, we should also strive to be holy. We are His emissaries and His whole ministry was to others, and that is what we need to do - give, help others in His name. Not for our glory - but give all glory to HIM!

So, what was Paul's goal when he wrote this letter? Always teaching and sharing the Gospel. He used a doctrinal teaching in 2 Corinthians on giving that we can learn much from.  He spoke of taking a collection from the Corinth Church for the church in Jerusalem. He spoke clearly on the fact that even if we give much and live in poverty, ultimately, we will be eternally rewarded and blessed, now and in the future. He talked about the giving of the Macedonians who were a good model of stewardship.  They selflessly gave while having the faith to know that God would meet their needs. He used himself of that fact. Through their giving to Paul, he was able to have a life that he used to share the Gospel, knowing he was cared for relieved his burden of where his next bite of food would come to him. Paul equated giving with grace in this analogy; my husband is always saying, "God’s free gift of grace was unmerited and undeserved, and it was costly to the point of His giving His Own Son Jesus Christ."  This is what Paul was saying. Are we willing to give until it hurts? If you do, the rewards are "out of this world".  And don't give grudgingly.

When we give in light of how much Jesus loved us, how can we do anything less in our giving back to God. It is truly a great expression of love and appreciation to the Lord for His sacrifice. I can say, "I'm not going to Hell", because Jesus gave HIS all for me.  Can you? Paul told the Corinthians that to excel in their giving was an expression of their love for God.  Love, like giving, should be in all sincerity and in proportion to what one has been blessed with.  The giver should never feel compelled to give but do so with a joy. 2 Corinthians 9:6b ". . .for God loveth a cheerful giver." The more a person gives, the more enriched they become, and the more God is praised. Give abundantly. Give with joy. Give in appreciation for your life in Christ. Give because there are so many that just need a little helping hand. Look for someone today and Just Give.

November 18, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

 And So, I Continue . . . . . .

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.  Psalms 26:7 KJV

Matthew 12:42-44 ~ 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

A Christian businessman had just been asked to make a contribution to a worthy Christian mission endeavor. He responded, “I’ll be glad to give my widow’s mite.” The person asking for the gift responded, quite excitedly, “Can you really afford to do that?!! She gave all she had.” He knew the widow had given her ALL but he wasn't sure the businessman knew what he was saying! 

Read our verses again.  Jesus is talking, again, about a Christian’s giving to the furtherance of the Gospel through the local church. If you are obeying the Word, you are tithing, giving offerings, and supporting your church as the Lord has blessed you. It isn’t a demand. . . have you ever thought of that. He is asking FOR YOUR HEART when we give.  He wants us to TRUST Him in all ways, especially in our giving. In these verses Jesus draws the disciple’s attention to the widow who gave her all and He wants the disciples to understand that this widows tremendous faith, love, and obedience was on display and was evident when she gave God all she had. She was not being supported by some welfare system; she had no insurance policy ready to meet her needs upon the death of her husband. BUT she gave HER all, her last mite, or in our day, her last dime. By giving all, she had to live on, she was showing her complete dependence on God. By doing so, she put the rich people who gave large sums to shame. She gave sacrificially and faithfully from her heart. They gave sparingly from their wealth. God is not asking us to donate all we have to worthy Christian endeavors, what He is asking is that we put Him first in everything we do. He is asking us to live sacrificially for Him since He died sacrificially for us. Is that too much to ask?

You know what the sad part is about the “Christian Businessman to me?” Someone had to “ask” him to participate in this Christian endeavor. He obviously is someone of stature, position, and wealth and you don't get there without being observant! He most likely already knew of the need, but felt no desire to give from the heart, sacrificially. And yet, we sit in the air-conditioned auditorium, on our cushioned seats, thinking of that fine lunch we will have when he quits preaching!  We aren’t concerned one bit about what it takes to run our church. There are bills to be paid, and our Pastors should be focused on preaching the Gospel, not how much will be received that day – or even worse, will he have to give up his salary that week to make a light bill, mortgage payment etc. People, it is happening in many of our churches! Most churches have a good salary for their Pastors, but some do not! Where did the money come from? Did you participate even once in the benevolent fund, or building fund, or given extra to missions this year? Did you think on the pastor’s needs let alone the pastor’s wife or children when it came time to give so you could put in a little extra?

It’s a special time of the year, and this is when people will give a little extra. But let’s look at it from the widow’s eye this year. Give till it hurts.  God will bless you for it! Then pray and ask God to help you in the future regarding your giving to Him and His work here on earth. God will truly bless you for your “Grace Giving”.

Another thing, why do we give to other organizations, all be it they are Christian works, and it is quite honorable, but we find it so hard to give to our own church and it's needs.  Our tithes and gifts should be made through the local church, and if you want it to go to a missionary or a specific organization, designate that gift and allow the church to send the gift in your name.  Giving is a blessing and an honor.  God has blessed us so much, how can we do less than to give back to others in need.

In the words of Jesus: Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to trust in you as completely as the widow did. Teach me to put You first in my every aspect of my life. Thank you for my many blessings and help me to keep my focus on the Gospel in my giving! Please Lord, continually remind me of all that Jesus did in sacrificing Himself for my salvation. Amen.      

Lord, please help us to be wise, studied up, aware, and faithful to You. Amen.

November 16, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

  And So, I Continue . . . . . .

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.  Psalms 26:7 KJV

Matthew 6:1-4 ~ 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Jesus, at the Sermon on the Mount, continues His instructions for all disciples and Christians to live by. Tom and I have always practiced and encourage Biblical giving. Our Lord was explicit in these verses how to do that. So, if you are a faithful giver from the heart, you probably already know how we are to give as Jesus taught the people, and it was important enough for us to know today, for God had His Word was preserved and recorded in our Bible.  

We are truly blessed as Christians. There is nothing in the world that we have access to, knowledge of, understanding that you can't find in the Word of God. When we study, read, apply His message in our lives, and take action in His name, He will bless.  The Gift and the Giver!

Just a few words on what I gleaned from God's Word today! I pray it is a help and a blessing.

Our Lord and the people we give to are the only ones that need to know what our giving consists of. That is what Jesus is saying here. Give in secret for Christ's sake, not to be broadcasted around for your sake. When we do that, you may get accolades from those who heard of your "great deed", but God is not pleased, and you have received your reward when those you broadcasted to give you a pat on the back. I'm looking heavenward for my reward, and it is mine to have when I give as Jesus gave.

God may use us to give of our finances; money that others desperately need and don't know where to turn to get it. But it could just as well be our time, material possessions, food, clothing, a place to lay their head, etc. Whatever it is, it's for us to know and our recipients to receive.  The same goes when we give to the church. Your tithe is a no brainer. You give of the 100% God gave you. It isn't yours to keep; but when you give over and above as the Lord provides, it is your gift to God and to the recipient.  He sees our hearts always, He knows why you give, and if done as Jesus taught here in these verses, it will go a long way, come back to you in great measure, and all will be blessed! ". . .that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly." 

One day our final rewards will be our crowns won because of our obedience, and faithfulness. And you know what we will do with those crowns? We will cast them at His feet in gratefulness and love of Him Who died for us.  The Ultimate Gift of Gifts! His precious life as He shed His blood on the cross for me and you!  Regardless of what we endure here on earth, a priceless crown will seem a pitiful offering. But it will be the best gift we can give Him. Although the Scriptures do not state it specifically, it is likely that we will all follow the example of the twenty-four elders in casting our crowns at Jesus’ feet.  Revelation 4:10-11 - 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." His life for mine!

He made it possible for me to approach the throne of God in prayer and supplications, interceding for others and blessings for me and mine. There is not one thing I have that God did not have a hand in.  It is HIS and He allows me to use what He has bestowed upon me. We all have that wonderful opportunity because of Christ's sacrifice and shed blood. Many don't take advantage of that precious gift; yes, they do get saved, I believe that, but then they take it no further. 

When you realize that because of Him you have salvation that no other can give, a wealth of the kingdom of God at your fingertips; He will give wisdom when giving.  How do we learn of these things Jesus is teaching of? One place is church - but sadly, our churches are empty because God's children don't find it important enough to be faithful in attendance. About 13 years ago, we were separated for a time from our grandchildren. These children faithfully attended church with Grandma from birth on! We missed them tremendously, but God knew, His plan is perfect, and we waited and prayed! All is well now, and we are enjoying a great time with them as young adults. But one of the youngest at the time, told me the other day that she had no clue what I was talking about when I shared a story from the Bible and how it helps me. Sad. I told her, it isn't too late to learn, and I would love teaching her. She can still learn of the things of the Lord.  I reminded her of the time she got saved, and she remembered that time with tears in her eyes. Believe me, God is not finished yet, and much more will be shared.

You can also learn of these things through your Bible reading and study, devotionals, and from other Christians. These things may not be important to those who are saved, yet do not serve God; but, one day they will regret their casual and temporal living here on earth; wasting away the blessings of God. When we attend church, this is our part of giving back. . .go to church, worship God with like faith, and allow Him to use us in the work He calls us to. Be a blessing to someone today! Give from the heart and with the cross on your mind!

November 14, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

And So, I Continue . . . . . .

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.   Psalms 26:7 KJV

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

When is the last time you read anything out of the book of Malachi? It is a small book in the Bible - but it is powerful. It has 4 chapters; you can read that in no time at all.  But don't just READ the Words, "read" the words. It has a total of 55 verses, and 1,728 words. It could be read several times in one day - "Read" it you will be blessed, and I believe even more enlightened when it comes to "Grace Giving"! 

God is dealing with the wayward Israelites once again, but the application can surely be applied to every Christian on earth. If you are a saved child of God, not tithing to your local church is a sin. Plain and simple. If you are not giving back that very small portion God asked for to keep the church from struggling, He will find another to tithe and give to the poor and needy through the church, and when He does, we may not have the bountiful blessings that God has for us. Giving is biblical in every way. 

A little background . . . Malichi was a prophet at this time in Israel's history and he was compelled by God to reach God's people by reminding them of where they should be spiritually. They had wandered away from the commandments of God, and were misusing God's directions on how to live, tithe, and serve Him.  Malichi wrote the words of the Lord to God’s chosen people who had gone astray, especially the priests who had turned from the Lord. Priests were not treating the sacrifices they were to make to God seriously. Animals with blemishes were being sacrificed even though the law demanded animals without defect. Deuteronomy 15:21 And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God. 

In addition, the men of Judah were dealing with the wives of their youth treacherously (Divorce) and wondering why God would not accept their sacrifices. Also, people were not tithing as they should. Leviticus 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD. And in Leviticus 27:32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. But in spite of the people’s sin and turning away from God, Malachi assures them of God’s love for His people and His promises of a coming Messenger, Jesus Christ. However, His displeasure in them can be seen in these verses, and all they had to do was turn from their wicked ways and serve Him wholly in every area of their lives, but in particular as written in these verses which address how to give to the LORD. 

The same for us Christians. Jesus is coming soon; how will God find you on His return for His beloved people.  "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, . . ." We have every opportunity NOW to do God's will, but soon that time will pass. We must care enough to thank God for our many blessing through the giving of tithes and offerings for those who preach the Word, pray for you, serve in the New Testament Church. I know many men of God who struggle today because they are expected to do all that it takes to run a "church" with no income to support him, or the needs in the church. Whether it be a light bill, or a paycheck, because of the lack of giving, our Pastors, Preachers, leaders in the church suffer because we have not obeyed God in giving. 

God wants our best in every area of our lives, but particularly in giving. He wants to use us to reach the lost in our community and around the world. When times get tough, we find that God's people give less rather than more. Why? Do we NOT trust God? Times are tough from the top down and the down up!  But our faithfulness will be in our continued offerings and tithes of which God will bless bountifully! God sees our hearts and knows the reason for our giving.  If it is not from that spiritual heart, God will know. When we got saved, everything changed. We are now a part of the family of God and when one hurts, we all hurt.  Grow your church and take care of your Pastor. We must if we are to gain the blessings of God. Be obedient to the Lord.  If you don't give it to the work of the Lord, the devil (government) will take it in the end. I don't know about you, but no matter how much they take from us in taxes, fines, etc. it is NEVER enough to run our country smoothly. So, what do they do? They come after our bank accounts, savings, etc. Put your money where it is safe and where God can use it to reach the lost, and bountifully bless you!  PROVE GOD! He wants to bless His people, not just to keep us from the devil, but to ensure our hearts are in tune with His commandments.

". . . and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

November 11, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

And So, I Continue . . . . . .  

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.   Psalms 26:7 KJV

 Proverbs 11:24-25 ~ 24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

What is Solomon telling us? What can we learn from giving in these verses? If I give of all that I have, I can never give enough away.  That is the answer to great joy. When we share of the blessings of God with joy, we definitely glean the blessings. I'm sure you have heard the statement, "You cannot outgive God." It is so true! When we are generous in giving, it blesses others, we get to share what God has given us; giving of our bounty, and many times out of our needs, God will return the gifts over and over again. Others who believe in our work, our service to the Lord and been generous to us, if not in finances, definitely in prayer, support and love.  We have learned that through our giving, we become wealthier and richer in the blessings of God. 

On the contrary, however, there are those who hoard, have big bank accounts, lots of things, and never give or give sparingly. In all of their hoarding and greed, they actually remain poor and get poorer. They remain in need of basic resources. This is why the liberal soul will be made fat or full; they will become prosperous. As we fill others, so will we become filled! We also know of others who have much, could relieve the misery of others, give sparingly and live like paupers because the number in the bank is all they are truly interested in. They even give to missions and other works they believe in but will not TITHE at all.  Believing their giving the way they want to is good; it is I can't deny that, but it is not Biblical. Tithing taught in the Old Testament is still being practiced by many Jews today. They give 10% of their substance. That's it. But we find in the New Testament another verse that pretty much knocks the 10% out of the park.  2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

This verse is a "game changer". It clearly says ". . . as he purposeth in his heart, . . ." and you might say, "that is why I only give 10%. God hasn't revealed to me to give more, and anyway I have 3 kids and it takes all I have to meet their needs...." Well, I want you to know that God doesn't need our "gifts", he wants our hearts. When we give from the heart, there is no limitation to the blessings we can give to Him, through our local churches, but also to others. And when we give over and above, believe me, we get the benefit of giving and the recipient gets the benefit of our giving. It is an honor to serve the Lord God in giving. How can you not honor the One Who blessed you? Give from the heart, ". . . for God loveth a cheerful giver." 

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Lord, help us to be wise, studied up, aware, and faithful to You. Amen.
