The Word of God is forever unending, and we are blessed to have It in our hands, at our will. Above are our verses written in Hebrew and in English. Today we are going to focus on Psalms again, and the Light of the World. At 176 verses, Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is an alphabetic acrostic poem WRITTEN in the Hebrew alphabet “A-Z” so to speak. David has much in this chapter which will help us on our Christian way and walk. In Hebrew, there are 22 letters, so an alphabetic acrostic would have a minimum of 22 lines, and each have 8 stanzas and that’s why there are 176 verses in this chapter. I found that on the internet although I have a preacher husband in the next room who could have told me. He loves writing acrostics and at the end of my give you one of his favorites, that I also love. Just a few words on the Word you might not have known. It helps to study up a little – I learned some new things already today.
The poem itself is a study of the Word of God, from Aleph to
Taw. It focuses on the joy found by keeping God’s
statutes and the pain of turning away from them. The Bible
Panorama (biblegateway.com) says Psalm 119 “is like writing the inventory of a
huge treasure chest on the back of a postcard. As poetry, the form is lost in
translation, but the beauty of its content remains.” I can’t say it often enough, but
I am so thankful for the Word of God and all that it contains. If you want a
closer relationship with God study the Word, pray, and obey. James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he
will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts,
ye double minded.
So, what is the meaning of these two “verses or stanzas?” When
we focus on our study this month on The Light Of
The World?” How are these verses helpful. David is at letter PE in the Hebrew
alphabet at this point, and he has stayed on course to finish the 176
stanzas/verses in this poem. He knows to get to the Light he desires, he must
keep on praising God, and keep the statutes and commands God has given him. God
truly loves us folks. He did not give us
the Word of God just for joy, but also for chastisement. How is your Christian life?
Are you as close to God as you should be? David is telling us this should be
our desire. We can talk the talk, walk the walk, but what really matters is how
we live our life for the Lord. We can “think” we are doing the will of God, but
if we are not doing the will of God, according to the Word He has given us, we
will stumble and fall.
I was talking with a friend yesterday who is struggling with
deep depression, although fighting through it. I was asked, “Why can’t I keep
my focus on the things of God? I wake up in the morning and I cannot even focus
on the day and the devil seems to be slapping me in the face at every turn.” I
told him he might be giving the devil access to his mind and life more than he
thought. (That shocked him.) Think about it, if the devil has access to your mind, he can steal
your joy and the Light of the World,
our Lord becomes dim. He doesn’t leave us, but we have virtually given Him a
back seat in our lives. “When the devil comes to slap your face,” I told him, “Turn
your back on him and when he hits you in the back, he will just be pushing you
closer to God.” He may attack us and want to hurt us, but he is not in control
of our lives, and we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the power of
God on our side. I gave my heart to Jesus years ago, and now that I am older, I
realize how much I need Him more and more of Him every day.
God never meant for the “simple” to be without understanding
of the Word. He made it so we can all understand and know that Jesus Christ,
His Son, is our Saviour and help in times of need. Whether mental, spiritual,
or physically. What is your need today – you know ours. We need a new home, and
we must trust in God to supply. Are you sick unto death? Maybe that is your
need. Whether to stay or go, only God has those answers for each one of
us. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed
unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: We can’t stop time or
death. Are you hurting financially, or your family is tearing apart at the
seams? Turn to the Light, allow Him to lead, guide, and direct. If you are
without a church home, please come see us here in Florida at Faith Baptist
Church in Fort Pierce. We won’t be there this Sunday; however, Tom will be
preaching at First Baptist Church of Dundee, one of our supporting churches.
But you will still hear great singing and preaching at Faith Baptist in our
absence. Make that your first step back to God Christian. Get in church, in
your Bible, trust God for all things and believe in your heart He will meet
those needs. May our Lord Bless you all!
The Light of the World is Jesus
The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in.
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Come to the light, 'tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me.
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!
If you don't know Him, come to Him today!
