“The Scape Goat”
John 19:14-17
The soldiers came and led Him out of the garden, after spending the night in agony. Looking to the cross. They brought Him to the High Priest, Caiaphas and then was shuffled between Pilate and Herod. Having had no sleep, no rest at all, they began their torture and mocking. No doubt most of His strength was gone, probably craving food and especially water, but received nothing; They wanted to make Him suffer as much as possible. These accusers and punishers were used to criminals fighting, screaming and declaring some kind of defense, but this man said nothing but, “thou sayest.”
They placed on Him the burden of the cross, that laid so heavy upon His back, and onward He staggered under the weight, not just of the wooden beams of the, but of being the scape goat, Our substitute. Under the law the Priests would lay their hands upon the head of the scape goat and confess the sins of the people that they may be cast upon the back of the goat to be led then out into the wilderness, carrying away the sins of the people. Jesus was pronounced guilty before all, in that all sins were placed upon Him, and the priests put their hands upon Him and led Him away outside the city into the wilderness and as the substitute for our guilt, carried our sin on His back (the cross) and was led away as it was ordained and appointed by God.
We that are saved have laid our hands upon Him, confessed our sins, and believed on Him with trust and confidence, and our sins were carried away, never to be remembered again. His load was much heavier than the cross.
“No More”
I am forgiven, but in myself I can’t gloat,
For all of my sins were placed on the scape goat;
He carried them away, no more to return,
My sins, His burden, now I’ll not burn.

Hebrews 4:9-13 ~ 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 ¶Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
