April 12 ~ Dr. Tom Milam He Leadeth Me Devotional

“Depression”

Proverbs 18:14; Psalms 22:14

I have suffered from time to time with bouts of depression, there is no other sickness or injury like it. This is the most grievous of all trials, it attacks and carries you to the unknown, and only by the grace of God can one return again to a normal productive life. And really the only way back is to realize that Christ went through it in a much deeper sense than we. He suffered more anguish and deeper distress than any of us could ever imagine. But we must take Him at His word, He walked that road before us, that He might be touched by the feelings of our infirmities. He is our faithful High Priest, whose saddened sufferings, spring forth unto us, that we can enter into a most intimate communion with the Saviour.

Don’t let despair rule you my friend, for the Master has trod the way before you, giving you the victory over the power of depression. Sometimes it seems as if Gods face is hidden from us, it makes for long days and nights, our thirst to drink from an overflow is so unbearable that we are near fainting. It is the time then for us to fall broken upon sweet Jesus and let the springs of love roll over us like a flood, to wash away all sins and cares that make us despondent. Remember, we have access to His throne of Grace to bring even the things we don’t understand. Let us lay down before Him, broken, despairing, feeling deserted, and having no virtue or value of our own, and with great love and mercy, He will restore us once again.

“At Your Feet”

Turn your ear and let me whisper,

Blessed Lord, all of my sorrows.

Lean thou hard, break on me nigh;

On You I’ll cast all my tomorrows,

And at your feet forever lie.

Bible Reading Schedule: 2 Samuel 3-5

Weekly Memory Verses: Luke 23:33-37 ~ 33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. 34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. 35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. 36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, 37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
