November 6, 2022 ~ Devotions: "The Grace of Giving"

  And So, I Continue . . . . . .

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.   Psalms 26:7 KJV

Psalm 37:3-4 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

David’s psalm about righteousness in spite of wickedness in the world, might be one of the Psalms I like to read the most. If I trust God and do good, I will be fed and I will have the desires of my heart.

Why does David pen verses 3 and 4 in this psalm? You have to read the whole psalm to get the answer.  Most people key in on verses 3 and 4 because it is a wonderful truth. But how did David get there? I am thankful for the exposing of the contrast between good and evil. Between the righteous and the evildoers. David is going through a hard time. Are you? Follow along and let's see how David's situation brought him to the place where he says, "Trust in the LORD, . . ." and just maybe, God will get you to a place that David is in these verses.

The psalm opens with “1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb; and if I look at in a larger capacity to include people with political or social power in our country or around the world who are using it for destructive or immoral purposes, all of a sudden, this whole chapter applies with much more clarity! Am I concerned with the sin in my country and around the world? Absolutely.  But, if I am going to "trust" Him, I need to "trust" Him.  Not that we should stick our heads in the sand, we should be concerned about those about us who would hurt, and harm us - because they can.  But these people are God's business; we just need to "Trust in the LORD, . . ." The evil of the wicked will eventually be the cause of their own downfall. Those who put their wants and desires before everything else will find that it vanishes like smoke. All the power and wealth obtained, is worthless in the end.

Also, as Christians we will be MUCH better off if we keep our focus on God. We have to trust and have faith that He is in control. There is nothing done or said, that He does not allow. Here is where the rubber meets the road.  Yes, he allowed that loved one to enter heaven without consulting us. He is the one that brought that calamity to our front doors.  He is also the one that heals the sick in body and soul, and it is He that can restore the joy in our lives out of sorrow.

Let's learn this, if we do keep our focus on Him, Trust and Have faith in Him, there is a reward. He will give you the desires of your heart. No, it is not likely He will take your loved one out of heaven and put them back in your home. No, He may not take away that illness and you will face a lifetime of sickness.  But in our delight of Him Who gave His only Son for you and me, we can find peace and comfort.

Lord, help us to be wise, studied up, aware, and faithful to You. Amen.

With love and prayers,
LKMilam
